Ofunato Japan Tsunami 2011 * 13th Anniversary Video
In this episode, we will visit the south of Iwate Prefecture, which is characterized by a completely different bathymetry of the coastal waters and a different coastal character. Together with the northern part of Miyagi Prefecture, this is an area characterized by deep, funnel-shaped bays and fjord-like features, which have had a major impact on the very different manifestations of tsunami waves. In this area, there are towns such as Otsuchi, Rikuzentakata, or Kamaishi, which are famous for their almost destruction in 2011 and which we have covered in our videos in the past.
In this video, we will focus on the town of Ofunato and its surroundings, where we can very well demonstrate the devastating effects of the tsunami, in the form of sudden rises in the water level, which is so typical for this area.
The video has an exclusively educational character, it does not aim to shock or show purposefully explicit footage of destruction.

I was in Maldives and witnessed this tragic. Unforgettable tragic experience😢
Who owns the rights to this footage?
Would you get close.
Actually it would help cut population by about half- which helps with everything, omg and those sunsets😮 I’m retiring in Bohol Philippines, I will have ungodly pictures for sale 😂

Aceh is pronounced archey. In Bahasa Indonesia language, a "C" is pronounced "CH".
The photograhy and music is irratating
I"m dropping your channel from my algorithm feed. It's all blah blah talk. There's a pattern here.
So if you jump into a wier will it hold you're body down
Why do I remember some pictures shown in this video and why do I think that I died in 2004 in aceh indonesia and I was reborn in Srilanka 2004 during the tsunami I was in a hospital and then I moved to japan and again died on March 11 and again took rebirth on July 5 again now I am 13 years old.
Very informative , educational and the narrator is excellent very educational narrative, thank you, arigato, but the problem is we dont know how high is the next tsuami maybe higher than the 2011 tsunami, the best solution is to build a very high evacuation building centers enough for the populations of the city for those who have no time to run up the surrounding hills.
Love the detail of all your tsunami videos thank you!
You´re welcome

Hi - I work for a production company and we are making a documentary commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the tragedy. I was wondering if you had any information regarding the sources of the archive images and footage that you used? Thank you
Those poor innocent children🙏🙏🙏
What if there are no high ground or anywhere to hide?
This happened 6 days after I moved to Germany. It was all over the news and I'll never forget. I've seen many videos since and still stunned at the scale of the disaster. My heart goes out to to the victims. Very informative thank you. And good use of Google Earth to demonstrate it

Are you dumb, you're saying water doesn't recede before tsunami yet you show videos where water level rises where it recedes 10minutes prior to rising(u didn't show that part of the video). Stop spreading misinformation.
Nejsi Čech?😁
Thank you for the study. The plain topography of Soma makes so vulnerable to build at the Coastal Area but the citizens in the concrete building didn't have much time to evacuate the area or they didn't expect such phenomenum ?
Outstanding video and narration
The tsunami most of the time are in the Pacific Ocean.
On the "parapet"? LOL! You mean window sill, no? Nevertheless, you're lucky to be alive. That's why I'm always strictly staying indoors during thunder storms!
It is incredible and terrifying how powerful the driven water is. My question is, why are the buildings all undamaged after a "9.0" earthquake?

A jeho velké štěstí. Přesně tak 🙂

James Bond island was protected? Pattaya didn't receive damage?
Tsunamis don't "kill instantly". They have to drown first. There are some people who managed to hold their breaths and let the water carry them until they were able to catch another breath and then hold onto various debris. Not everyone who was on the beach just died outright.
miluju tenhle kanal!
Just imagine Seoul ferry as well. Fuck listening. I will get out and go up. Always up and out.
anf i was with u
i like it
These videos are super helpful, well put together 👍
I am so surprised that the sea people didn't know what was going on with the sea. Any time the sea changes to a sight you have never seen, its because it always gives a warning before unleashing its truth. Any time the sea recedes out to distances never seen before, its always an indication of a Tsunami is coming. Not maybe or perhaps. It is coming and this is the only warning you will get. Every person living next to the sea should know this. I hope for future generations in these areas that a training center is set up for the people to learn from and hopefully they will also setup and Safety Area for people to escape to. It may only happen once or even twice in your lifetime.YES! there will be another. Will you be ready the next one. It can happen anywhere in the world.
Thank you for the great explanations...
😅😅😅😅 พากันยืนเบิ่งเสยร่ะบ่อย่านตายจั้กเม็ด 😅😅😅😅
We must not forget that opposite the south of Thailand there are at the bottom of the Andaman Sea 2 Tectonic plates which push each other, this is what happened in 2004 No one can predict when it will happen again
Thanks 😊
the people just standing there staring 😳
The magma chamber has not been properly mapped (This is Possible as shown by mapping dun in Yellowstone) as the Italian government is more interested in tourists then preemptive measures against some future they cannot or will not envision. Point being, the chamber Does stretch out under the bay and if it cracks and that sea water hits some magma that entire caldera WILL unzip and make the worst of Vesuvius look like a small firecracker. That area has approximately 2,180,000 residents many of whom are not even aware they are living close to or even IN a Caldara. Seeing the current activity now I pray every day for them and for us all as if that does open up fully it will send the world into a small Ice age. On the positive side, no more global warming protesters for a long time. On the negative Food stockpiles will deplete fast and with the weird Anti Farming movement that is a real Problem.
I like your other videos, but I wouldn't call the presence of a thunderstorm (clouds, rain, warnings) evidence that "A Lightning Will Strike Near You." That's just evidence of a storm.
